What is the difference between her and us?
She expects. We expect.
We reject. They reject.
Or we accept, they accept.
Only difference I can find:
We ask. She doesn't.
We hope our request is honoured.
She expects us to offer time, help, without her asking.
Sometimes, we think of the effort needed as organisational need. Crisis even.
And think of help as responsibility.
When its done to us though, it hurts.
I guess I cry because I change
from this moment.
Every time I expect others to help
because I see how important it is
I will re examine before I call it
organisational need.
Or bring in “the relationship we share”
kind of phrases.
Which seems to me
completely wrong to do.
Ah but may be it is so
because I am still scared to
explore
that side of our style of management!

As you shared, our style I agree is scary to think of it in the team's perspective but one fundamental difference I find as you wrote is WE ASK AND WE DO NOT ASSUME and do not wish to be best friends or resent it if it is not happening...
And man, such negativity, guilt and all that I hope we don't drop on our girls.
let us tread with caution
this is an important red flag
let us consider each request
(we see how it can crawl beneath our skin...)
Well said K!
